A common problem I have is seeing where the currently edited document is in the binder.
When I have the label color used in the binder entries, a dot shows the current document. That’s a great feature. You might consider using that same dot system at all times (as on the left in this screenshot).
Have you tried adjusting the Binder background colour a bit to cause the highlight bar to stand out better? I have the same issue on my monitor, the two blues are very close, so I just chose a different hue and lightness level for the Binder and it’s a lot more functional now. We still need to find a way to hook into that selection bar so it can be adjusted to something nicer, and also to allow for user customisation.
I experimented a bit, but it seems that whatever I set the binder background to, the highlight color changes to that also. For example, here it is with a black background:
To be clear that screenshot was with the cursor in the text editor. What you see here is the inactive colour of the highlight bar—what should be the inactive state, it’s a slightly darker blue when the focus is in the Binder. I can’t get it to turn black in my tests. I tried with and without label highlighting in the Binder.
I’ll check and see if someone with Win 8 can test.
All right, as I feared, this is an issue with Win 8 and our toolkit. We’re still looking for a way to control the highlight bar (and then we’d have the ability to let the user change it in settings), so there isn’t an immediate fix on the horizon. With that in mind, since you can see things clearly when the Binder is focussed, consider using Ctrl-Tab to quickly flip between it and the editor if you need to see where you are.
