I downloaded scrivener last night and everything was up and running and working well and my documents were saved. I went to use it after work 2 hours ago and scrivener decided not to load. It will not load new or saved documents. I have to force quite it and try again.
The only thing that appears is the option to start over with a blank page or open saved documents. I’ve tried both way and neither work. Why not?
I tried uninstalling (Throwing it in the trash) and reinstalling and I get error code-36.
Saying that my brand new computer 10.6.4 cannot read some of the data contained in scrivener.
Why not? I got this computer for the sole purpose of downloading scrivener and adobe products. I am in love with scrivener. Why will it not work? I am very upset because I spent a lot of money to do this… Please help me. <3
Please check for OS X updates, using Apple -> Software update. “Error 36” errors were often caused by a known bug in earlier versions of OS X 10.6.
I’m somewhat surprised to hear that a brand new computer came with OS X version 10.6.4. The most current version of OS X is 10.8.1, and the last version of Snow Leopard was 10.6.8.
I am trying this now. Thank you for your help. I forgot that I wrote this post and tried to reopen scrivener again and it did the same thing. The system version is now 10.6.8
It is asking to to install and restart.
Will get back to you soon!
I’ve been sitting here for almost 2 hours waiting for scrivener to complete an update. I am still waiting. Any idea why it might be taking this long? I’ll leave it over night, but hopefully someone will get back to me.
Gathering that you bought an older, used Mac – from someone. That means there is a wider array of things to consider in helping you troubleshoot your problem. No idea why the update would take so long. Doesn’t sound right. But, when you get that cleared up, if you still have that launch problem, the next thing I would try is to Safe Boot it and then see if you can just launch the Scrivener app.
Thank you for replying. I actually got my mac from apple. It is refurbished actually.
The update is still going, so I don’t think it will clear up without some help, so I sent a private message to one of the Admins with the errors in my console app. Hopefully we can figure something out. I will look up the safe boot instructions as well.
If you have any other suggests, I give you my full attention.
You mentioned you are updating Scrivener for multiple hours, that is definitely way out of the ordinary unless you are still downloading and working off of a slow connection (really slow). Updating should take a matter of seconds once it is downloaded. So it sounds like the updater has hung.
I would just grab a fresh copy off of the website and install that over the current version, if you’re having troubles with the updater. We always keep the website up to date.
