Hi
When I drag and drop Word files into Scrivener, all the text is wrapped – all the line returns are missing, so it is just one long tranche of text.
How do I preserve:
• line wrapping; and
• formatting?
PS If I open the Word file and copy and paste text it is fine - but that is a real pain in the neck since I am usually dragging them without opening from Mail.
Many thanks
Sheila
Hello,
That’s strange - I’ve never heard of anything like that happening before. What happens if you open one of the problematic Word files in TextEdit? I ask because Scrivener uses the same .doc and .docx importers as TextEdit. Copy and pasting will use RTF format rather than the DOC format, which generally comes across better, but line breaks certainly shouldn’t get lost. Could you send me a problematic Word document?
Thanks,
Keith
If you drag the file from Mail to the Desktop, what file extension does it have? If you see none at all, try clicking on it once and then pressing Cmd-I. There is a section in that panel for “Filename and Extension”.
Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
Scrivener had been doing this for about a dozen files. But now when I dragged and dropped the same files again the problem is gone! I must have enabled and disabled some preference without knowing, or something.
Anyway, thanks again
FYI this is what had been happening

Approximately 150 people attended my talks, with many coming to me after to say that they finally understood diabetes was and the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes”. , raised €410. “Our thanks to Sheila Lemasney for organising the event and the Greystones Tennis Club who provided the facilities. Also a special thanks to all who supported this worth cause”, Tommy O’Rourke Honoury Treasurer Wendy Morrison Dublin, hosted a ladies lunch in Howth Co. And now thankfully, it looks like this again.
