Drag Documents Back to Computer (Desktop)

First off, congrats to such a useful product. Scrivener turned out to become the major idea collector, project notes organizer and draft editor in our household. I love it!

Now, since I use Scrivener for collecting ideas and doing research most of the time (rather than writing novels or screenplays), I often drag PDFs, spread sheets, documents, fotos, to the binder. I have not yet found a way to drag them back to the desktop or filesystem. This is sometimes very important, e.g. if I want to mail a document, upload a picture to some website, or anything your could imagine.

As it is now, the binder is something close to “Write-Only Memory” when it comes to the file as such.

As files are index and their original filename seems to be lost, revealing them in the finder (inside the bundle) would not make much sense.

Please add the ability to drag documents back to the computer! For the filename, you could use its current document title. This should be rather easy to implement and will make many users happy, I’m sure.

Keep up your good work!

Try Opt-drag?

Also, there’s File->Export->Export files, which is especially handy if you want to export a selection of binder items.

Thanks for the kind words! As Robert says, File > Export > Export Files is what you’re after. It’s not really possible to allow a drag out to the binder, because file drags move files, and you wouldn’t want them deleted from inside Scrivener. Cocoa does have a concept of a “promised files” drag, which allows the developer to generate the files when Finder asks for them upon drop, but when I previously investigate it, it didn’t work too well at all. But Export Files allows you to get everything out of the binder again if you need to.
