You wont notice that a file is whacked until the next time you open it.
AmberV/Ioa, KB and the DB team (I am pretty sure they were involved) did an analysis. It is kicking around here somewhere. I believe that it had to do with writes at sync time which is aggravated by the scriv requirement to keep a certain amount of synchronicity between certain files.
I get the reason why folks don’t want to keep the backup in DB. I really do. My suggestion wont work anyway so it is moot.
