Due date column for outliner

A specific “Due” column for the outliner that correctly sorts dates (and always puts white space last) would be very useful for deadline and to-do management. White space last, because at the moment entering dates in a custom column results in cells with dates being sorted to the bottom of the table. For writers, dates mean deadlines, and deadlines need to be front and foremost, so they can be treated with the contempt they deserve.

Given that almost all commercial writing is due at some point (in my case, mostly on dates now past) I feel an inbuilt “due” column would be a natural fit with Scrivener.

Just use a custom column and enter the date in a way that it will be sorted correctly, e.g:

2010-12-31

Although more data types for custom columns would be nice for the future (and are on the long-term list), they are not likely to happen before 2.5 or 3.0, so this is a good solution until that far-off future… date.

All the best,
Keith
