Duplicating Text Names[ADDRESSED]

Not sure if this is a bug or by intent …

When you add new text or rename the text in the drafts, you can name two different files with the same name. I thought I’d try it to see what kind of error message I’d get and instead I had two files with the same name.

This is possible because Scrivener saves files internally by assigning numbers as file names. Each document has its own number. They are saved as text (rtf) files with numbers along with a links file.

This is why it is vitally important to keep different projects separated into their own folders.

Should Scrivener fail or lose its links to these numbered files, you could rebuild your files from these numbered text files. I tried that with yWriter files; it is not for the fainthearted.

I am new to Scrivener as most Windows users are. What I don’t know is if Scrivener keeps these numbered files in chronological order, as you move them about in the binder, corkboard or, outline views. It would be nice if they were always kept chronologically. Then, the text files could be imported back into a Scrivener project without too much difficulty. This, the Scrivener team would have to clarify.

Scrivener has given me a new lease on my writing with its ease of use. I appreciate all the efforts made by the Scrivener team.

Files are not kept in chronological order - it would not make sense to do so. The whole idea being to that the implementation is completely abstracted from the creation - this way your mind is free to wonder without the hastle of thinking about ordering or duplicate naming etc. XML provides the abstraction linking the implementation to the interface.
