Editing preview text in Compile window

Is there any way to edit the boilerplate gibberish scene text in the Compile window? There’s no italics in the preview and I find myself exporting to PDF to check font styles numerous times. I can’t edit the text in place, and any attempt to paste fails to overwrite the existing text.

Hi.

You could easily choose a font by testing it on your text in the editor.
(But no, the demo text can’t be replaced in the compile format.)

We’ve considered making it editable (perhaps by some advanced trick like editing text files in the Application Support folder), but it’s not actually that straightforward as this text is dynamically generated based on the various options you can select. It’s on the list to think about though, especially given the much more severe problem of how some fonts for certain languages cannot display these character at all, causing the previews to drop back to a Latin-friendly font, so you cannot even see what you’re doing.

This would be good to add, maybe in the context of a general reorganization or simplification of the Compile window.

Thank you Vincent! That is an obvious and great idea I’m ashamed I didn’t try it first haha

Thank you for the response Amber! Yeah adding it to the backlog would be nice, but more so for the issue you cite than my more simple one. I assumed this was more complicated than it seemed; the GUI just made it look editable, which baffled me.

I appreciate the response!

I use a compile collection of an Act, 2 chapters, a few scenes, front and back matter to test out the compile function. Doing this small group of files allows a quick compile, check, adjust and repeat.
