Empty Trash button in Main Toolbar

As the titel suggests, it would be nice to have a button in the Main Toolbar selection to empty the trash, so you don’t have to go to the bottom of the binder or the Project menu first

This wish is for the Windows 3 version.

Do you have to go to the bottom of the Binder? On the Mac we have Project > Empty Trash…

Don’t you have the same on Windows. My personal position as a user is that I would never put an “Empty Trash” button on the toolbar I would risk accidentally clicking it and losing something that I might regret. That menu entry, without a keyboard shortcut, is a much safer feature to me.

XIAMENESE (Mark): As you can read in my post I wrote that you would have to go to the bottom of the Binder OR the Project menu. So, yes, it is the same in the windows version as in Mac.

And about the risk of deleting accidentially, there would still be the confirmation box before deleting. So that is not a problem now and would not be with the button, that I made the wish for.

I’m terribly sorry, I was obviously reading too quickly.

Obviously, this is a matter of personal preference. If I wanted to be able to empty it without resorting to the Project menu I would set a keyboard shortcut; again I wouldn’t know if you can do that on Windows though I do know that the system for doing so is different. To me, the fraction of a second difference between mousing to an icon on the toolbar or to the Project menu is insignificant, and emptying the trash is something I only do very occasionally. Truth be told, I hardly ever use the main tool bar, and then it’s only been to switch between single document and scrivenings views … surprisingly I’ve never even used the shortcut for that.

Obviously our working methods and preferences are different, but I’ll hope for you that the Devs pick up your suggestion.

Some of us like to keep the Trash empty. I know this is not the “Scrivener Way”, but I hate having the Trash around; if I want to keep something but don’t think it works for my current WIP, I move it out of the Draft folder, but not into the Trash. Nor do I memorize a lot of keyboard shortcuts; I prefer to work with the mouse, the toolbar, and the menus.

My workaround: I moved the Trash to the top of the Binder, and I leave the folder open so it’s immediately obvious when something is stuck in there. Then I can right-click and empty the trash easily.

I agree that a button would be nice; perhaps the Powers That Are will hear our plea.
