(Even) More Footnotes Options

Dear Keith et al.

First of all, thank you for the hard work so far. I love the product. I just have one semi-major issue that would make all the difference to me in S2:

As an academic user, I would love to see an option to have footnotes appear as… well… footnotes, with a number super-scripted and its referent appearing in a separate place, perhaps a separate window. I would prefer this rather than having footnotes alongside the text (albeit marked or ghost-note-d) b/c when drafting research documents, working papers or conference papers, I often have long substantive footnotes running sometimes 2-3 paragraphs. Of course, I understand why Scrivener hasn’t integrated this feature to-date. It’s not ‘good’ writing to have long footnotes. However, it’s sometimes unavoidable and allowing Scrivener users to have ‘real’ footnotes might extend the length of time that people can Scrive before having to export to the cold world of MS Word or Pages.

Happy New Year from Waiheke, NZ.

Hi,

In 2.0, there will be a way of having footnotes stored outside of the text, but there will be no superscripted numbers until you export (as Scrivener stores the various chunks of an MS in separate sections, keeping the numbers auto-updated and taking into account whether documents are set to be included or not etc would be problematic). But I do think 2.0 will offer a nice improvement to footnotes/endnotes.

Thanks and all the best,
Keith
