I use scrivener on both Mac and iOS for both original work and fanfiction.

When working on Mac, I can just copy-paste fanfiction straight from the Scrivener editor into archiveofourown’s rich text editor and all the formatting gets preserved (mostly paragraphs and emphasis). But for some reason when copy-pasting from Scrivener iOS (specifically ipadOS) to AO3 some of the formatting (especially emphasis) is lost. I tried it on both Safari and Firefox and the result was the same in both cases.

Is there a way to copy-paste or otherwise export on iOS that preserves formatting in a way that’s compatible with ao3’s editor? I thought about exporting to HTML but I’m also not seeing the option when using compile on ios.

As I understand and it’s been repeated here often. Scrivener simply using Apple system software for clipboard. So what comes out into “AO3” via the browser probably more dependant on the browser software, and maybe AO3. Perhaps check with those developers.

Do you have Pages on your device? A couple of factors that come to mind there are that (a) it’s a lot bigger than Scrivener, and so maybe the website programmers have given thought to understanding how it copies formatting and (b) it’s a different formatting engine from Scrivener. Of course by that logic, copying from Word may be even better.

You could compile to DOCX into either of those, but I’d try simple copy and paste first since it sounds like that’s your typical workflow. It might be Pages/Word understands the stock system’s rich text clipboard but produces something, when copied from _it_, that a website might be more familiar with.
