Fail to start after download of Windows 0.35 version

Having trawled through the various posts on this subject, I am still no further forward - can you help me, please? The message I receive on starting the new download to my laptop is “This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reistall may fix the problem” Tried this a number of times - no success. Looked in regedit at HKEY_USER_/SOFTWARE/Scrivener - deleted and re-downloaded - no result.
My laptop is a Dell D600 running Windows XP Pro. V2002, Service pack 3. Had no problem downloading to my desktop. Your answer is eagerly awaited.
