I am a new user, going through the Trial and Tutorial. My client, an author, is on a Mac; I am using Windows XP. Will we be able to share files, i.e., when I save on my computer, will she be able to pull it up on her end, when I email the file/folder to her?
If sharing by email, best practice would be to zip the entire .scriv folder. Otherwise, it’s easy to inadvertently leave out some of the project files.
There are a few annotation features that are supported on the Mac but not yet under Windows. Your client will still be able to use these features, and data won’t be lost, but you won’t be able to see the notes on your system.
Katherine, thanks so much for the info…that’s good news! Relative to the “annotations” you mention, are they scheduled to be programmed into the Windows version in the near future? And, what, specifically, are the differences?
I’m wondering since we will both be modifying the file and sending back and forth. If I know what the differences are, I can more easily adjust accordingly.
Thanks, again! And, after going through the first segment of the Tutorial, I am very excited to get started on my client’s project!
And the comments/footnote thing will be improving in the next Windows update, too. In fact the improvements are already in the current public beta. While you still can’t view them as intended (over in the Inspector sidebar, where notes, keywords and such are), they will be highlighted in the source text, and hovering over them will show the content of the note. So you’ll be able to work around them and see what they say. This is only a stop-gap solution, obviously the goal is to get the whole thing functional on both platforms—it’s a pretty big job though. At least they won’t be invisible bits of important data that you might inadvertently trample upon. It’s partially done, but we weren’t satisfied with the quality for it to make the cut in this round of updates. Just request they use inline footnotes and annotations, those are compatible.
