Files don't open, but Scrivener itself does

Hi,
I am having an issue with opening existing files.

Scrivener opens, but no existing files open, nor does creating new files work. I only get the Project Templates window.

I have Scrivener version 3.1.5 and MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3.

Could you please advice on how to fix?

Thanks, Dalila

Does it try to create a project window and then hang, or only partially create it? The most common reason for this is a corrupted system font cache, which can be reset rather simply with a free tool like Maintenance. But sometimes you can even sort it out by rebooting to safe mode and then rebooting again regularly. This is supposed to clear caches, but I’ve always just used a utility to make certain that it happens.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, then you should go into Scrivener’s General preference pane, under Warnings, and enable Show internal error alerts, before attempting to create a test project (I’d recommend using “Blank” first, as that is the simplest option and avoids potential problems with unzipping the prefab templates).

It would also be a good idea to run Console (in your Applications/Utilities folder), checking for any Scrivener warnings or errors.

If you get any popup warnings or console messages, relay them so we can take a look.

Thanks, that worked!
