Hello,
So recently opened up a project I haven’t worked on in about a month and while it was loading it gave me 3 error messages. They each said something like “C:/user/pathgoeshere/83.rtf” was not found." I don’t remember the exact numbers. Now the most recent text section is empty. The title is still on the text section, but it’s blank.
I tried searching for a semi-unique word that was in that section on my computer, but it brings up nothing. I haven’t moved any of those files around, so I’m not sure where they could have gone. Spent the past hour combing the forums and Google hoping someone else had this error but couldn’t find anything. Very dispiriting to be ready to jump into writing and get punched in the face right out the gate.
Any ideas?
Have you checked the most recent backup of that project?
The most recent backup doesn’t even have the three text sections before the one that went blank. Which is weird since it has auto backup when I close the document. Maybe Windows shut down for an update when I wasn’t paying attention and closed the program. But I hit Ctrl-S pretty religiously. The fact that it said the .rtfs were missing makes me think it can’t have been that.
Weird.
The files may be there. The project index may have become corrupted and is not recognising that the files are there. Do you use services like Dropbox? Corruption may occur if you close Scrivener before the sync process has finished.
I do not use Dropbox. My files are all stored locally. I occasionally compile the whole thing and upload it to Google Docs, but that’s separate from the Scrivener files.
Edit: Also, thanks for the suggestions everyone.
