I just updated my mac with Yosemite. Now I can’t get my files to change inside of scrivener. I click on the file names in the left sidebar but they don’t change in the view window. If I restart the program they sometimes let me change them in the view window. Somethings if I change the view type to a split view as well.
Please help I have a paper due this week!
Were you viewing a PDF, by any chance, before this started happening? We’re seeing a few cases of that popping up with 10.10.
Otherwise, the usual things to check: is the editor locked (does it have a dark red highlight?), if so toggle that off with View/Editor/Lock in Place. The other thing to check is View/Binder Affects/. The default setting is “Current Editor”.
This is what has happened to me running 2.6 on Yosemite (I have reported it yesterday in bug forum).
Luckily, I did not update my macbook to 2.6 and I can use that (2.5) quite happily, on the same files, with yosemite. Seems like there is something in 2.6 that has fallen out with PDFs.

Could you please send us Console logs? To do so:
Quit Scrivener (to clear out any problems from the session - this is important).
Open Console.app (from /Applications/Utilities).
Fire up Scrivener again.
Trigger the bug - open a PDF document and check that you can no longer navigate to another document.
Opt-Tab to Console.app and type “Scrivener” in the search field in the top of the window. This will filter all the messages so that it only shows messages relevant to Scrivener.
If there’s anything there, please select all in the right-hand pane of the Console, and copy and paste into a reply here or into an email sent to our support email address.
The bug sounds as though an exception is getting triggered in the background, as exceptions getting thrown can cause the interface to act in odd ways. Ioa, Jeff and I have all been unable to trigger the bug on our own machines, so we’re at a bit of a loss at the moment. A Console log might shed some light on what’s happening.

Precisely the same problem here. Same cause (it appears) adding a pdf and then viewing it.

throwing the document into the trash does not solve it. Nor does it able to delete it from trash.

Ouch, thanks for the logs. All of those errors seem to be coming from within Apple’s PDFKit, unfortunately (I say “unfortunately”, because that makes it more difficult for me to fix).
There’s a lot mentioned there about accessibility - could you please tell me what accessibility features you have enabled, if any? Also, could you please try downloading the trial of a program such as devonTHINK or Skim and see if you have the same issues with PDFs in those (those programs use the same PDFKit as Scrivener).

Had reduced transparency on
tried it with it off and still had problem - even with new file.
Had previously had the increased contrast on in displays but had turned it of before the problem.
Tried it on a Licensed copy of DevonThink Pro Office and the pdf worked. it was not a pdf that allowed highlighting, if that is of any interest.

Thanks, we think we’ve found the problem. Would it be possible to check your VoiceOver setting? If it is on, try with it off if you are able, and if it is off, try turning it on (fully, in the subsequent dialogue box as well) and then back off again. With it off, see if the bug persists.

Just checking in on this bug. I’m experiencing the exact same thing on Yosemite. If I click on a PDF in my research section, I can scroll through the PDF and interact with it, but if I try to click on anything else, no dice.
One work-around: If I right-click on a document in the Binder and choose “Open in Other Editor,” then I can access it and close the PDF.

That was it–Parallels Access Agent was causing the problem. I deselected it from the Accessibilities tab and everything works perfectly. Yay!
I encountered the pdf sticking issue - found your latest update - and still had

i did not have any of the named programs except VoiceOver (which did not

turned them off
I also Quit voiceover - which, while not appearing in the accessibility box
initially - none of this helped - nor did the other user’s discovery about
opening another editor (that actually did work but i could not close the
pdf so it was not a perfect solution for me
I then rebooted my machine with all the above referenced settings ‘off’ per
your instructions - when I relaunched scrivener - it was then that i saw
the “don’t panic’ window - and as you pointed out everything was there - so
I assume I am back to ‘normal’ with this project
[b]MY MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IS:
will this issue continue - i.e. I am unable to view PDFs until you / apple
have solved the issue[/b]
[b]OR
have the workarounds restored the PDF functionality??[/b]

Currently our understanding of the problem is that it needs to be fixed by Apple, unfortunately. It reproduces in a test program that consists of no more than three lines of code, requesting a PDF viewer, in both 64 and 32 bit modes. The only known work-around at this point is to disable whatever it is that is causing the conflict.
thanks for the prompt response - I am not sure I fully understand - you mention that it is - more than likely - an apple issue relating to pdf viewers - but i don’t seem to encounter any issues when i view other pdf files on the same machine - using the pdf viewer provided - example - google drive docs - open and close and function normally
It is unlikely that the problem will appear (or at the least, create a negative impact that you notice) in programs that open and close single document windows, like Preview (and I’m dubious as to how “vanilla” Apple’s Preview is when it comes to PDF Kit), and of anything that isn’t using vanilla PDF Kit probably won’t exhibit any issues of this nature. The basic problem is that when attempting to redraw the main editor view, an error occurs of a nature that causes that routine to break, so that task doesn’t function until the thing causing the exception is removed.
