I am using Scrivener 3.4 on MacOS 15.2. I have had scrivener for a long time, but only recently really started to dive into it and try a full project. When I use CMD+F to print up the find/replace window it works fine. I type in my word to find. I click find next. Then the window disappears. I often have to press CMD+F several times before it stays open. It just randomly goes away while I am still using it. Is there a way to make it persistent?
That said, it could be added as a feature. A checkbox in the window that allows it to float on top even when clicking in the Editor or Binder. When done clicking around, just unclick that box and click away, and poof! Everything back to normal.
I would welcome that, especially since the darned thing is ginormous and covers what we are searching. They could fix that, too:
make it smaller. It’s way too huge.
make it grow automatically larger for larger searches as you type in it
make the buttons smaller. They don’t need to be 2 inches wide.
give it a memory, so when you invoke it, it’s not smack-dab over the top of the Editor. I always drag it so it is in the margin. But maybe it should remember that placement.
make the checkbox choices persistent. If you check ‘ignore case’, click in the Editor, then click CMD > F to get the thing to reappear, it defaults to something you did not choose, and you have to invoke it all over again. Very frustrating.
Scrivener is wondeful. It’s a godsend. But it could easily be made a lot more perfect.
