Thanks for this opportunity to try Scrivener for Windows. So far it hasn’t crushed on me. However, I have two questions and one observation.
1 - Is there a way to set line spacing? I find that when the lines are too close together my eyes tend to tire more.
2 - When I use full screen mode (F11) the mouse arrow doesn’t flow smoothly, it tends to jump.
3 - Lastly; would it be possible to implement font increase and degrease size just by pressing control and the wheel ( forward and backwards) so we don’t have to alter the default font size? This is standard behaviour for example on other word processors.
Line spacing is on its way. The Windows guys had to write their own RTF rich text engine and so some key things are still missing, line spacing being the most obvious. But it will definitely be in there in the next couple of months, before release.
I’ll leave Lee (the Windows dev) to deal with this one, as it sounds like a bug, but could you give more details so that he can reproduce it?
That sounds like a good idea, hopefully Lee will put it on the list as a refinement. Given the vast number of things he’s trying to get through, I would recommend keeping a mental note and prodding us again in a couple of months if it doesn’t make it in, simply because a couple of months down the line we’ll be in a better position to look at things that add polish such as this (as opposed to the great big horrible crashing bugs poor Lee is dealing with at the moment ).
Regarding your question. The arrow jumps when I move the mouse anywhere on the screen. It works, however. I don’t know if this function relies on video card particularities and brand. It may not happen with other people but it certainly acts here the way I described.
I will remind you about the font methodology described on my previous post. It does help those folks with bad eyes like mine.
I also hope for drag and drop to be considered as an option to be implemented in the future. Makes editing text a lot easier.
For a first beta, I tell you, you guys have done a great job. Congratulations.
Are you use Windows with a virtual machine of some sort, like VMWare? I’ve never seen the sluggish mouse pointer problem you mention. Just tested on my wee little netbook and it moves around like silk in full screen.
No, I am not using Windows with a virtual machine. Video card settings, perhaps? Code problem somewhere? I use graphics software with no display problems at all.
