To American friends - please just make the correct decision.

Actually the correct decision would be to go to Washington and fire very single person from both parties then start all over with a new batch of politicians and see if they can think outside their ass and their campaign donors.

No argument there.

I think I made the right choice.

pige, don;t you mean a new breed of politicians

Donā€™t talk friggin rubbish, youngā€™nā€™! Heā€™s too good for you lot

Hyperbolic? Rhetorical? Sincere?

Iā€™ve read the text, watched and listened to his speech. Heā€™s touched all the bases, covered all the options. Itā€™s all of the above. But this I do believe: he is sincere, and I think he cares about Americansā€¦ALLā€¦Americans.

Iā€™ll say again, what I said in 08. Heā€™s not a miracle worker, but his horizons are far wider, more encompassing than the other guysā€™. Heā€™ll try to do his best for all of his countrymen and women.

Heā€™s worth another four yearsā€¦I think.

Good Luck America

Well look at the bright side.

January, since both parties on the ā€œsuper committeeā€ couldnā€™t come to an agreement to how to battle the deficit the automatic draconic cuts will kick in. So massive lay offs in the government contract sector, military benefits for families and veterans, and government jobs will start to happen after the new year. The unemployment numbers should see a sharp rise in the first quarter.

The EPA regulations that are going to kill fracturing will make the US more dependent on foreign oil and the EPA regulations that will basically kill the coal industry will cause large layoffs in the mining sectors and of course energy costs will increase. This will be awesome since we could see gas go upwards of $6 a gallon within the next two years. As fuel prices soar so will the cost of living and food, tack on a stagnant economy and many large businesses moving assets overseas to avoid the crushing taxes coming or just selling out entirely (like George Lucas did) to liquidate before the taxes kick in and all kinds of great things will happen like massive layoffs, crushing unemployment, and loss of tax base to pay for all the social program increases.

Of course with large tax increase on the middle class coming in a few months the people who are struggling now get to see a lot less on their paycheck and when the Healthcare regulations kick in it is going to be really awesome that the IRS will require all of your medical background and history and insurance information in order to make sure they come up with some way to pay everyoneā€™s health care bill with magic money.

Also since the House is in control by the Republicans they will attempt to defund as much of the drastic measures as possible. In doing so the President as he has previously said will have to find a way to do all the things he wants to do without having to get congress involved so expect a lot of Executive orders to come out.

On foreign policy the answer is simple. The UN will decide all matters of state and of economic growth and if the Muslim brotherhood wants to take over a bunch of countries and Iran wants a nuclear weapon or decides to just bomb the shit out of Israel the American people will do like they did during WWII and sit back and stick their heads in the sand and pretend all the bad things happening are because of YouTube videos and ā€œpeacefulā€ demonstrations.

IN the last 4 years welfare has increased by 75% and it will continue to grow. In America 47% of the population pays 0 in taxes. Instead they get welfare through the tax code called the ā€œEarned Income Tax Creditā€ and other credits. This tax model is not sustainable. We do not live in a eutopia where magic money flows from rivers and all things magically are paid for. Someone has to work to produce. 53% are already struggling with the burden of having to carry the 47%. Start reducing that 53% by attempting to take more will only drive the 53% away. As the producing numbers dwindle the draining numbers increase and it is a self full-filling failure.

Of course our Europeans friends will feel the crunch as the American Economy hits a double dip recession and American Companies start shifting assets or circling the wagons to fend off the massive costs and taxes. And since we will not be able to produce large quantities of domestic oil and natural gas we of course will have to leverage our economy on foreign oil which should drive up the prices for everyone on the other side of the pond and reduce the availability of those resources.

It has been 4 years and what progress has been made? Record number of people unemployed? Record number of small business closed? Record number of foreclosures? Record numbers of people on welfare? 4 years of blaming the last guy?

But hey we did get an increase in food stamps and anyone on welfare now qualifies for free internet and a cell phone paid for by the 53%.

The question to ask is this. What happens when the 53% stop paying the bills?

Wock,

Now I know who was writing Mittā€™s speeches.
Your predictions are darkly fascinating.
But I donā€™t think one of them will come true.
Ease up, please, and get a grip.
Your help and advice on the forum are too valuable to lose.

As I hinted at earlier, perhaps there is a new, BREED, of politician, waiting in the wings. Would you know them if you encountered them? Perhaps you already have? Exactly, whoā€¦would you elect to govern the States? How do you think they would respond differently to the task, than the Dems&Reps?
Catering for the wellbeing of ALL 300,000,000 residents of America, is one hell of a tall order.
Who would you elect, wock?

Observations, last night and this morning, from various Republican strategists and advisors.

John Weaver: We can become a shrinking regional party of middle-aged and older white men, or we can fight to become a national governing party.

Matthew Dowd: The Republican Party has become a Mad Men party in a Modern Family America.

Mark McKinnon: The party needs messages and policies that appeal to a broader audience.

A close look at polling patterns suggests an ironic twist to the Democratic victory. Democrats this year, more than in any previous election, voted a straight rather than a mixed ticket, suggesting they are beginning to think that the way to overcome Republican intransigence is to be intransigent.

Not a new breed, perhaps, but surely some of a different gender, a different orientation, a different color, a different heritage, a different religion. Middle-aged white men are no longer the controlling demographic; they will, absent an awakening, become irrelevant.

Phil

Well its kind of like hiring someone for a job.

Lets see.I will give you some examples.

If you car broke down would you

(a) Take your car to the florist and expect them to fix the problem or
(b) Take it to a mechanic who has 20 years experience working on that model car?

If your electricity in your house shorted out would you

(a) ask your artist friend at work who has never touched anything electrical to fix it or
(b) Talk the electrical engineer who designed the circuit?

IF you are going to invest money would you

(a) Talk to the homeless meth addict for financial advice or
(b) Talk to the man who has benen in investments his whole life?

Simple. If you voted for Obama you would pick A in every case in life. Because obviously seeking a professional or a person who has actual experience would mean nothing to an Obama voter.

I would elect people with actual knowledge and experience.

Hey he has been in office for the past 4 years. What has he accomplished in those 4 years besides ramming Hilary Clntons early 90s plan with some modifications down everyone throat only to realize whoops its going to cost a lot more than expected or to invest billions of our dollars into his campign bundlers companies only to see them go broke?

I look at his track record. 4 years of costly mistakes and what do we have?

Utter failure.

But hey 4 years of utter failure and people still think someone else is going to continue to pick up the tab. Oh well.

Increased welfare benefits. 2 years of unemployment and a free phone.

How cheap elections have become.

But then who is going to pay all the taxes?

Yes lets summarize the Obama Election
youtube.com/watch?v=tpAOwJvTOio

Your comment seems not only inane, but irrelevant. Do you suggest that middle-aged white men now pay all the taxes?

But if it is true that supplemental tax revenue is needed, we might begin by requiring the Romneys and their cohort to pay at a rate at least as high as that paid by members of the ordinary middle class. And to pay that rate on all income, whether from investments or from common labor. And to register as taxable all received income, including that tucked away in off-shore accounts.

The tone of your posts implies (sorry if I misread) that this country suffers dearly because 47% do not pay their share. I believe you are mistaken in this; even if you are correct, the income which might be realized by effectively taxing the poor is nowhere near that to be realized by honestly taxing the rich.

ps

47% pay nothing. Instead they get subsidized instead so its not only no contribution but its a drain on the available resources.

The top 10 percent of earners paid 71% of ALL the taxes.
The top 5 percent earned 31.7 percent of the nationā€™s adjusted gross income, but paid approximately 58.7 percent of federal individual income taxes.

Now you are going to argue that not only is this fair but those that succeed should actually pay more?

So the moral of the story is the harder you work and the more you succeed the more evil you are and the more you should be punished.

Now imagine if those 10 percent just said well fuck it and moved on, closed their doors, retired?

Who is going to pay that 71% so the 47% can get all that stuff for free? Well if 71% dried up think of all those government employees that get furloughed or canned. Those government grants that dry up becuase of lack of funds. Lack of manpower and resources for emergency response crews (look to the North at the devistation and lack of help). And when you are in dire times like the people who suffered Sandy, cold, hungry, and without power you can feel better knowing that all the electrical crews that came up from the South to help everyone get their power on faster will get turned away because they arenā€™t in a UNION. You can go to Red Cross tent and beg for underwear, socks and blankets while they pass around plates of cookies and hot cocca. Watch generators and drinks sit at the almost marathon because the President nor the mayor had the balls to say ā€œPeople need these resourcesā€.

But no worries. While everyone freezes the White house will continue to throw outlandish and lavish parties on the producers dime. They will continue to promise you everything.

The only problem is The administration is full of people who arenā€™t producers. They are takers. They take from the hard working and they redistribute the resources to worthless to keep them worthless and easily controlled.

To your question. Of the 47% only the disabled should be discounted. The rest need to get off their lazy asses and do something. I am sorry but everyone in this country is offered the same education 1-12. They have the same chances and in fact if you are anything but a white male you have a lot more chances and opportunities to succeed.

Success is not guaranteed nor is it a right. It is something that is earned with sacrifice, hard work, and a lot of dedication and discipline.

Taking from those that succeed to subsidize the lazy has never worked in History. You reach a tipping point when the people doing all the hard work and getting punished for it ask why continue. Its more rewarding to sit on my fat ass and get shit for free.

Yes. The country would be in a much better position if the 47% could carry their own weight or at least to carry something. Think of how much resources we could have for the people who actually NEED it. There wouldnā€™t be a homeless problem, we could take care of the sick and elderly, we could easily help those in need like the people suffering now from Sandy. We wouldnā€™t have a deficit, we wouldnā€™t need to borrow from China, Social Security would be safe. Crime would be lower, research grants would have more finances, education would be cheaper.

The list goes on and on.

It is simple math and no matter how you spin it it always comes out as FAIL. Why do you think the takers are always insisting we RAISE taxes on everyone? Simple. The money is running out.

So I challenge every liberal today to put their money where their mouth is.

This year on your taxes instead of paying only the minimum (what is owed) you should do your duty that you ask of others and you should take over half of your earnings and send it in to help pay for everything.
I mean that is fair and it would help.

Or is it only fair when its someone else having to make the sacrifice?

Wock,
Not everyone has the intellectual capacity, to be able to reach for, and scramble up on to the next rung of the advancement ladder, by dint of hard work, commitment and sacrifice. Some of us have to make that kind of effort, just to survive, and help prevent the bottom rung weā€™re stood on from braking.

You havenā€™t answered my question as to who you would elect to run the country, in lieu of the usual miscreants. Try names, Wock, instead of insulting smartarsed lectures.

Thatā€™s right, just study it out.
youtube.com/watch?v=ceHa5E46fQg

I would have elected Ryan and Romney.

Would have booted Reid and pelosi and Co. I would have ditched every Democrat that was responsible for the housing collapse (yes that was a democrat thing) and would promote economic growth instead of perpetual dependency on the government for any and all needs.

As to this

47% Vic-k? Come on. One out of every two working people in America just donā€™t have the capacity to take care of themselves or provide for themselves? And that is only people who actually make a paycheck. That number does not include the known variants like the elderly, the sick, the unemployed, the children, the stay at home parent, etc. We know these people should be taken care of. That I do not argue with at all. This number is people who WORK but contribute NOTHING.

No. that 47% are the ones that get a tax return but get more back than they contribute. Welfare through the tax code.

So if 47% of the work force lacks the intellectual capacity to be able to reach for and scramble up that next rung then what does that say about the country?

I canā€™t think of any other country on the planet including third world countries, small villages, etc that every other person in the labor force lack the capacity to take care of themselves or lack the mental capacity to make progress.

I mean doesnā€™t that number seem awfully high to you? I do understand there are those that are less fortunate. I understand there are those that lack the mental capacity to move forward.

But one in every two? Please explain that because I am at a loss at why half the workforce in one of the greatest super powers lacks the mental capacity to make a decent living in a country where the poorest people are better off than over half the population of the planet.

It couldnā€™t be that many are just lazy?

Steady Tigers

So today sees 300 million souls expressing exaltation, disbelief, elation and ire. With the agony and the ecstasy in more or less equal measure, itā€™s still worth reflecting on the fact that the United States of America is incalculably bigger than any one presidency. Republican, Democrat, but first and foremost American, you guys are pretty damned good at the ā€˜Pursuit of Happinessā€™ business. Youā€™ll get on with fulfilling that quest no matter who parks their posterior behind the desk in the White House Oval Room. That said, itā€™s really refreshing to see a real passion in politics. By contrast, in the UK weā€™ve mastered the debilitating art of complete political indifference. Watch out for our impending Police and Crime Commissioner elections next week. The whole debacle will be deemed an overwhelming success if voter turnout manages to hit double figuresā€¦
