Floating the Editor Window

As if, you guys are not already inundated with genuine issues, I come along with something that could probably have been figured out had I read the manual or seen the videos . . . but then again, I apologize in advance.

The point here is that I wish to make the Editor window Float. Not go in to the composition mode (just so that we’re clear). Not to split the editor (also so that we’re clear).

All I want is the EDITOR window floating atop the normal scrivener window, and me being able to type in it

Now, Windows -> Float Window as well as Windows -> Float Quick Reference Panels do not seem to work (all I do is tick them, they remain ticked, but I don’t see any visible difference in the normal Scrivener 3 window).

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

The editor window is always floating, unless you go into fullscreen mode. Close the Binder and Inspector and all you see is the floating Editor.

In other words, I’m to assume it’s not possible.

Not an answer I had hoped to hear, but I guess if that’s what it is, then that’s what it is.

Unless . . . someone has the actual answer, not a workaround.

Thanks.

It’s not a workaround. It’s a question of what you perceive as the central unit in Scrivener. If you see the Binder as the core unit your request is logical, but if you see the Editor as the core unit, onto which you can ”add” the binder and inspector, then the editor can’t float more than it already does. How could you disconnect the editor from the editor?

You can look at Pages or Keynote as a comparison. The editor window is the central, floating window but you can open formatting and navigation panels, corresponding to the inspector and binder in Scrivener.

From what do you want to separate the Editor?

Isn’t Window> Float Window what you want?

Oooops. I just tried to float a window on my iMac, and suddenly nothing happened.
In fact, Scr seemed to quit. I’ll restart and see what happens.

On restart Scr crashed, and I’ve sent in a crash log.

And will try again, This is particularly odd for me, as I was using a floating window recently.

OK. My aged brain has finally remembered the correct answer.

Try Navigate > Open Quick Reference, then sort through the list.
(It’s quicker if you keep a Quick Ref icon in the tool bar.)
Then in Window > Float QR.

Then you have a floating editor window.

Now, as to the crashing…
