I’ve been using search collections to keep tracks of characters, locations and such staff, but when the list got longer and longer it became really messy. I think it would be nice if the collection bar can be more organisable, like having folders and subfolders to keep everything neat and easy to find.
That wouldn’t really work, because collections are dynamic and it would be very confusing to have either folders in collections that don’t exist in the binder or folders that do but which contain different documents. Also, if you deleted something in the binder, whole folder structures could go out of whack in collections.
All the best,
Keith
Keith, isn’t the OP just asking for a way of organising Collections - into ‘sub-collections’ of, say, locations, characters etc. These sub-collections do not have to be linked to, or the same as, folders in the binder.
I am looking for ways to organize collections without there having to be a million of them. It seems I can do it with the non-dynamic sort, creating folders within the collection. But with the dynamic search one I can’t figure out how to do it. I guess I’ll just have to convert the dynamic search to a non-dynamic one and then update manually?
I’ll keep looking.
It’s a flat list, but colors may have some impact on organization…
I was an enthusiastic user of Collections for a while. But my enthusiasm waned when (1) the number grew (beyond about 20, I think), and (2) I couldn’t arrange them as I wanted. I did mention it here, somewhere, and I seem to recall Keith declining to add folders as a solution.
As a workaround/alternative, I started to use a text expander, which has probably worked out to be more effective in my case. I don’t need many static Collections, and for the few that I do, there is ample space. YMMV, etc.
