Font misbehaviour in 3.1.4.1

I’ve raised this to a PANIC in a new thread – leaving this here for info on symptoms etc. just in case it proves useful.

UPDATE Windows??? See bottom image - leaving message up in case other people who have windows also see similar issues.

So, this just happened: font in a new document looks neither bold not not bold (this after other weirdness around paragraphs not pasting with formatting in the same document.

Trivial steps to reproduce are in the images…

Note that the cursor is in the 1st line, and the toolbar shows it as Bold, but it isn’t

After quite and restart Scrivener, as predicted…

I am aware that there have been other issues pasting into e.g. word, but I’m seeing something completely different… and yet somehow the same, because I have experience of word formatting (in Word) “toggling”.

Is it perhaps a recent (Scrivener or, maybe Windows?) update causing format information not to reach the clipboard at all???

PS I also had other problems recently in an existing doc where I applied Times New Roman to several paragraphs but some of the text within one paragraph was clearly not TNR!

PPS Now what? Look - reopened the doc I was working on and it has the style Newspaper shown as TNR, but again, it isn’t!

P^3S As I was restarting the PC to see if that made a difference I saw this in another window:

The document with the (new) Newspaper style was still displaying as Calibri and I couldn’t even change it to TNR - had to create a new Newspaper para and Ctrl-Shift-V the text in. ALAS after quitting and restarting scrivener the Newspaper paras are back to Calibri.

Time to start tearing hair out.

I have COLD booted (shut down, power off, disconnect cables to monitors, etc. wait, and only then reconnect and restart) and the problem remains - in fact it seems more extensive than I thought: can’t change any font, anywhere.

At least, there is no visible change in Scrivener

I think we can all agree that the selected text shown below is not Broadway.

However, the issue is PROJECT SPECIFIC. I opened another project and font changes work there.

Q: How do I recover THIS PROJECT?

I don’t know when the corruption occurred :frowning:

Hi Julian_M1. If this issue is project-specific, my first recommendation is to create a new project using the same template that you used for this one.

Next, please open this project side by side with your new project. Then, drag-and-drop all of the documents from the existing project into the new one.

Does the new project continue to have issues where you’re unable to change formatting? Or, does the new project allow for fonts to change correctly?

If the new project is working well, I’d turn it into my main, working project and archive the one with the font issues.

Thanks Ruth

In the PANIC thread I’ve noted that the issue is present in new blank and templated projects and that importing didn’t work either – it seems more app related (hence the universal cover of all backups?)

:frowning:

PS I tried drag and drop anyway, no change

Copy/paste into word also shows that the format info is there. It just doesn’t visibly change in the app and the font label doesn’t reflect where the cursor is.

I see Vincent_Vincent replied with some suggestions on uninstalling and reinstalling on the other thread.

Those steps match what I’d have suggested as well.

Now resolved (with notes) in the other thread

Thank you.
