Footnote Placement Exporting to Word

I have checked the forums (and the internet) and couldn’t find an answer to my question, which I think must be simple…

I am using Scrivener to write my dissertation, it is awesome. The problem I have is that when I export to Word, my footnote markers are not always placed where I want them. When I simply put a footnote after a sentence, it works. The footnote marker comes at the end of the sentence, after the period. However, when I have a footnote after a direct citation, the quotation marks seem to mess things up. Instead of having period, closing quotation, and footnote marker (i.e. .“1), I get footnote marker, period, and then closing quotation (i.e. 1.”). I end up having to manually fix all of these, which is a drag. I assume there must be something I am doing wrong when creating my footnotes, but would appreciate any help.

FWIW, I’m using Scrivener 1.9, Word 2010, and this issue happens whether I export my Scrivener as .rtf, .doc, or .docx.
