Footnote text not included in word counts

Hi,

The current version of Scrivener 2.0 doesn’t seem to be including footnote text in the word counts (neither in the “live” total at the bottom of the window, nor in the Project Statistics window–and yes, include footnotes is checked). An example: I generate an 11 word document and add a four word footnote. The live count at the bottom of the window reads 11, the project statistics for Draft reads 14 (why?), and for selection reads 11. In any case, none of the various ways of getting a word count seem to be including the footnote text.

I first notices this in the tutorial file (comments & Footnotes section)–when adding the footnote as directed in the tutorial, I noticed that the word count wasn’t changing. So I generated the little test draft mentioned above and replicated the bug.

Any ideas what is going on here?

Thanks,

Kevin

Okay, I played with this some more. It seems that the “Drafts” section of Project Statistics is counting at least some of the footnote words (does it not count 1 letter words such as “a”? That would account for the discrepancy…). However, no matter how I toggle the footnote and comment options in the Statistics panel, the “Selection” section never counts the footnote text, and the live count at the bottom of the window doesn’t count it either.

From a writer’s point of view, I need a live count that reflects all text–including footnotes–not just body text…

Thanks,

Kevin

The live word count will include inline comments and footnotes but not those you place in the inspector (it would be too slow for the live count to add information not contained directly in the text while typing). However, you are right that there is a bug in project statistics where they are not getting counted in there, either. I’ve fixed this for the release version.
Thanks,
Keith

Great–thanks for the quick fix! So far I’m loving 2.0 – this will make my current book project a much more pleasurable (and seamless) experience…
