Footnotes export to RTF, but not to Word

I cannot get footnotes to export properly to .docx format; the content of the notes gets dropped in-line with the text and the document contains no footnote reference markers. But if I export to .rtf with precisely the same settings, the footnotes are properly exported.

What gives???

Using Word 2011 (14.4.8), OSX 10.9.5, Scrivener 2.6.

This sounds a bit like this known issue. I’d go through the steps in that and see if any of those resolve the problems you are experiencing. Another thing to check for is a compile setting itself, in the RTF Compatibility pane, make sure flattened footnotes is off.
