Formatting in Stage Play Mode

I’m working on a project in the (US) Stage Play template; however, when I’m working outside of the scenes/front matter, every document follows the typical scene structure and I can’t fix it.

For example, I want to be able to make bulleted lists and insert tables when I’m working in the research and notes folders. Even if I say it is “general text” as opposed to scene heading, etc., I still can’t figure out how to get rid of the typical stage structure in every single document I create in the project.
