Formatting in the 6" x 9" Compile

Hi. I’m new to using Scrivener 3 so I’m hoping someone can let me know if I can adjust a formatting issue that I’m running into.

What I currently have my document is some offset text for conversations that is not formatting how I would like when I compile it and I’m hoping there is a way to fix it.

Basically it’s something like this:

Normal text with the standard indent.

Standard next line wrap as expected.
“Conversation Text 1.”
“Conversation Text 2.”
“Conversation Text 1.”

When I compile I’m getting the next line wrap in a way that I’d like to control better. It’s showing up something like this:

Normal text with the standard indent.

Standard next line wrap as expected.
“Conversation
Text 1.”
“Conversation
Text 2.”
“Conversation
Text 1.”

The above is exaggerated because it’s a short sentence but you get the idea.

What I’m trying to manage is something like this if possible:

Normal text with the standard indent.

Standard next line wrap as expected.
“Conversation
Text 1.”
“Conversation
Text 2.”
“Conversation
Text 1.”

So basically, I’m trying to get it to wrap to the same indentation that previous line has it if it’s possible.

Thanks for any insight that can be shared.

The formatting of the question didn’t really show up how I was trying to explain the problem.

Let me try with some spacers in.

Normal text with the standard indent.
Standard next line wrap as expected.
[Indent] “Conversation Text 1.”
[Indent][Indent]“Conversation Text 2.”
[Indent]“Conversation Text 1.”

When I compile I’m getting the next line wrap in a way that I’d like to control better. It’s showing up something like this:

Normal text with the standard indent.
Standard next line wrap as expected.
[Indent]“Conversation
Text 1.”
[Indent]“Conversation
Text 2.”
[Indent]“Conversation
Text 1.”

The above is exaggerated because it’s a short sentence but you get the idea.

What I’m trying to manage is something like this if possible:

Normal text with the standard indent.
Standard next line wrap as expected.
“Conversation
[Indent]Text 1.”
[Indent]“Conversation
[Indent][Indent]Text 2.”
[Indent][Indent]“Conversation
[Indent]Text 1.”

Hopefully that makes more sense if anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi there,

  • This should be posted in the Mac Technical Support forum, as this forum is intended for you to post tips to other users, not to ask for help.
  • you haven’t said what you are compiling to. From your question, I suspect you’ve used Tab characters to create the indent and must be compiling to ePub , ePub (and Mobi, etc.) is a flavour of HTML, which ignores Tab characters.
  • Try using “Block Quote” style, see if that works.

HTH
