Getting Placeholder Referents for <$N> and <$sn> to Display in Editor without Compiling

I have a template that sequences numbers for elements of text in the editor using placeholders like <$N> and <$sn> for compiled documents. It would be useful to be able to see the actual numbers, though, in the editor panel while drafting the document. Any way to do this? If so, how? thanks.

Sorry, no, this isn’t possible. Scrivener doesn’t evaluate placeholders until the Compile command runs, in part because it doesn’t have all the information it needs to do so until you tell it what files to include.

OK. A bit odd, though. Index cards can be auto-numbered. Seems there should be some way to auto-number the docs with which they are associated. Oh well. Thanks for the info.
