Getting Scrivener heirarchical paragraph numbering to transfer to Word heirarchical paragraph numbering

I’m working with Scrivener 2.9 beta 20 for Windows. Very pleased overall.

I have managed after much experimentation to get Scrivener heirarchical numbering to transfer to Word, e.g.

1.1
1.2
1,2,1
1,2,2
1.2
1,2,1
1,2,2
1.3
etc

all with proper indents as one would normally see in Word when working with heirarchical numbering in Word’ e.g:

  1. This is a para
       1.1 This is a sub-para
       1.2 This is a sub-para
                 1,2,1 This is a sub-sub-para
                 1,2,2 This is a sub-sub-para
       1.2 This is a sub-para
                 1,2,1 This is a sub-sub-para
                 1,2,2 This is a sub-sub-para
      1.3 This is a sub-para

etc

This relies entirely on formatting in Scrivener (not on compile). It’s a mixture of heirarchical arrangement in the binder (e.g. 2.1 is a sub-doc of 2), using the <$hn> placeholder for all numbered paras, and using different paragraph styles for each level (2. 2.1, 2.1.1, etc) so that they indent and hang by the right amount (in Scrivener and in Word) .

I compile and get a perfecty formatted Word document. EXCEPT that the numbering in Word is text, not Word heirarchical numbering. So in Word if I now go to the end of a numbered para and press return I get a new paragraph, not a new numbered paragraph, and the following paragraphs do not auto-renumber as they normally would in Word heirarchical numbering. Of course I could go through the entire Word document and manually insert a heirarchical number at the beginning of each para, but that would defeat the purpose of setting up heirarchical numbering in Scrivener and would be very fiddly at best. Of course what I want is to be able to work with heirarchical paras in Scrivener, move them around etc in Scrivener (which I can do at the moment) and when I compile to Word have the numbering appear as Word heirarchical numbering (which is what isn’t happening), so I or others can continue the editing from there in Word without further work on setting up heirarchical numbering.

So my question is whether there is a way to set up Scrivener so that the heirarchical numbering that appears on compile in Word is Word heirarchical numbering, not just text numbers? I,e. somehow telling Word that each para number should appear as part of a Word heirarchical numbering scheme throughout the document?
