Ghost or Shadow Docs

I wish that I could see the same doc in multiple locations in the binder. Sometimes I don’t know where I will actually plunk a bit of information until close to the end of a project. Sometimes I am working on a concept and thoughts about it tend come to mind at various places in the project. It would be nice to be able to replicate the one doc as a shadow in these various places. That way, when the thoughts come, it’s right there (even though it’s also somewhere else!). I could actually edit the “one” doc from any place, avoiding the distasteful and wasteful task of editing multiple docs or trying to “hunt down” the one (meanwhile losing my thought), or replicating docs and hoping that I did not delete the “latest” version for the final run. I know that linking is possible, but I want to see the same folder in the tree in various places.

The way I envision it working is: right click on the source doc | make shadow | drag shadow to desired spot | presto! Done!

Hope this makes sense. k

I know it’s not exactly what you’re wanting, but have you thought about using reference links?

Have you considered using the ScratchPad for this? The ScratchPad window “floats” so that it’s visible all the time, and you can send each individual note to any spot in any open project whenever you like.

(Note that because the Scratch Pad is independent of any project, it will not be protected by Scrivener’s project-specific automatic backups.)

Or use Project Notes? Is it not the one note to rule them all?
