I actually transferred a not to small project to scrivener and just wanted to let you know that scrivener is still stable. Not a single crash up to now. The document has almost 80.000 words (at the moment plain text). The document actually is split into 154 single documents.
Nevertheless it has to be told, that splitting documents lasts a bit (appr. 5-10 seconds). First tests have shown that the new scrivener.exe is definatley faster.
I think the slowdowns come when you have those 80,000 words in just one document.
It’s a little tricky thing to find since its hard to source the problem (We don’t have debug versions) and difficult for Lee to replicate it due to the vastly differing hardware everyone has.
Not saying that the program isn’t when it is used as (I believe) intended, but, well, it is kind of hard to fulfil the needs of every person who may have vastly different Windows OS set-ups (SP1/2/3, for example) and different Hardware.
Testing on Apple hardware is a lot easier; you only need to support a limited number of configurations.
I have worked with the large document for 7 hours and the new scrivener.exe ist MUCH faster and still not a single crash/ hangup/ strange behaviour. Now performance issues anymore. Thanks a lot and congratulations,
Excellent - thanks for the feedback. Always good to hear the success stories amongst the bug reports - though such is the nature of releasing a beta. Cheers
