Handling Searches

Different apps have different ways of handling searches for text when the text is above the current location.

Your way:

“Text not found. Search from Top of Document?”

is one of the least convenient ways. I get that message more often than not, and it isn’t necessary. The best way to handle it is the way FireFox handles searches: if the text isn’t below the current location, it starts from the top again.

The user will realize that it has scrolled around.

I often do not realise that Firefox has wrapped to the top when I search a page. The Adobe version is slightly better as it prompts the user whether to resume from the top. Personally I like vim which actually says “search hit BOTTOM, continuting at TOP” and does so in a different colour from the text.
