I just started using Scrivener. I imported a book I have been writing but the layout is terrible. Plus all of my page numbering and headers didn’t come over.
My question is simple. Can I use Scrivener for this? I love the way it works and it may just be that I am newb. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Paragraph and character formatting attributes can be cleaned up using Documents/Convert/Formatting to Default Text Style. This uses your default formatting settings as defined in the Tools/Options “Editor” tab. If by “layout” you mean considerably more than font and indent settings, then you might be trying to press Scrivener into the wrong role. It’s primarily a text composition tool. It’s focus is on the manipulation and structuring of large texts, rather than upon the publication of them in final form. So stuff like headers, page numbers, columnar layout, boxes, clip art, and so forth are wholly absent by design. One typically compiles the text product to a program designed for layout and typesetting design at the end of the writing process, if such details are required of the author.
The compiler has a number of features which can give you a head start (and enough for most authors working with submission quality output) on this. Headers and footers can be added there, for instance, and are by default.
