Help I did something wrong

I have done something that changed desktop setting. For past two years when I clicked on scrivener on icon on desktop my projected opened. Yesterday when clicked on the icon it opened up the “Getting Started” and had to open with the “Recent Projects” button.

Know it is something simple but I can not figure out what I did and how to reset it to go to my project automatically.

Thanks in advance

Barry

I don’t know what went wrong, because I don’t know how you originally created the shortcut icon that opened your project. But an easy fix would be to go into Explorer, navigate to the .scriv folder where your project resides, then highlight the project’s .scrivx file (without opening it), right-click and select copy (or just do Ctrl+C), then right-click on the desktop and select “Paste shortcut.” That will create a shortcut with a version of the Evernote icon on it, and clicking it will open your project.

A slightly less easy fix would be to right-click the current desktop shortcut that you have and select Properties. Then go to the Target field. Assuming that what is there is something like “C:\Program Files (x86)\Scrivener\Scrivener.exe”, you would then at the end of that type a space and the full path to your project’s .scrivx file, surrounded by quotation marks, e.g., “C:\Users\Your Username\Documents\Writing projects\My Greatest Project.scrivx”.

Check your startup options, particularly these two:

My understanding is that if both are selected, if you close the project but not Scrivener, it will pop up the selection screen. And then if you exit Scrivener and restart it later, you won’t have had an open project and so the selection screen will pop back up.

It should be as easy as making sure the project of your choice is still open when you close Scrivener, and making sure that the first checkbox is selected.
