I have Scrivener 2 I think? Can’t access Scrivener at all since Mac Catalina update. I have a book in progress. I don’t see why I should pay for another Scrivener when what I have is good enough for me! How am I supposed to access my book?

Scrivener 2 is a 32-bit application. Catalina dropped support for 32-bit applications. The only way to keep using Scrivener 2 is to down-grade your Mac to the previous operating system.
You have 2 choices.
Upgrade to Scrivener V3 which is substantially better than V2 and there is a discount upgrade price, or if you have a full pre-Catalina backup you could try rolling back.
Internet Recovery will install the McOS version you system came with if is post 2012 from memory.
