I spend a lot of time jumping between different parts of my project, and having to change the view state when I get there. For example I might be jumping between a file where I’m writing new content, to a global overview of the project, to a set of character notes, and to a research folder. Maybe there is also a picture that I want to bring up quickly, in as full a screen as possible. I wish with a single click I could call up any of these key documents or go to a specific entry-point in the project, and have it displayed in a specific way for that file.
One way to do this would be to save and recall edit-states:
- save a particular screen view with all its details: ie a specific document, shown in a specific mode (corkboard, outline etc), with its specific view settings (card size, use of label colours, outliner options) and screen layouts (binder shown, window size, split windows etc)
- a dozen saved edit-states would probably be enough, though who knows once I start using them
- assign edit-states to hot-link buttons (icons and/or text) on the regular menu-bar (to the right of the Help drop-down) and/or a user-definable free-floating toolbar
Is that clear? There will be other solutions, but the wish is to be able to hop with single clicks back and forth between different items, and have a complete set of view settings pre-configured for each item.
