How do I change format of files from Script to plain text?

Hi All,

I’ve been working on a play script and want to simultaneously play with the same material in a memoir format. How do I take the files I have from the play and convert them out of script format?

I’ve already created a whole new project and inputted the files from the play to the new project. But when I open the files, they’re still in script format. How do I change that, wipe it clean?

I have dozens of files–do I do them individually or is there some kind of inclusive way I can do them as a batch?

CMD 8 … is that what you mean?

What do you mean? CMD8? Sorry, I don’t understand that jargon.

Pressing the CMD key and the number 8 toggles scriptwriting mode on/off. With scriptwriting mode off, the file acts as a normal text file.

Does what you want?

Yes, I think so! Can it really be that simple?

When I save the file, will it now not be in script mode?

Thanks, Briar! It’s nice to have a simple problem for a change.

Glad it worked for you. Scrivener will remember the format you leave the file in.

Happy writing.

And you do not need to remember a key command. The relevant command is at the top of Scrivener’s scriptwriting menu:

Format > Scriptwriting > Script Mode

–gr

It can be added to the toolbar as a button, as well. It isn’t in the default set, but if you add “Script” that will act as a toggle between formats. It’s also the most clear indicator of what mode you’re currently in.
