For example, if I copy five successive lines of text, each of which is preceded by a hyphen, and I paste them into a document, Scrivener will replace the hyphens with numbers. If I then hit the return key, Scrivener will add a numeral 6 to the beginning of that line. I’m trying to figure out how to stop the ‘replacement numbering’ altogether. (I’m on MacOS 11.7.4 Big Sur)
Also, is there a way to search the forum? I don’t see any search bar option!
There is a big magnifying-glass icon in the forum header bar. Click that to Search the forums.
Something to try: When pasting such hyphenated lists, try Paste and Match Style instead of regular Paste.
I don’t know how to “turn off” the list detection you are seeing, but Format > Lists is bound to be helpful in de-listing lists after the fact .
In TextEdit, you stop the listing behavior on the final carriage return by hitting return twice. That cancels the continuation. I expect it works the same in Scriv.
I figured out how to ungray Paste & Match Style. As I mentioned, I’m on Mac. If you have the same issue, Go to → System Preferences → Security and Privacy → Files and Folders → Scrivener → Place a check in the box for each named folder.
For me, that meant placing a check in the Documents folder. “Removable Volumes” and “Downloads” were already checked.
Thanks for the suggestion to use ‘Paste and Match Style.’ It works just fine now.
I doubt those things you did had anything to do with Paste and Match Style being greyed out. The most likely explanation is that you did not have an active insertion point in your text doc in Scriv. Like, maybe the focus was still on the Binder when you pulled down the Edit menu, and while a text doc may have been showing in the Editor pane, the text area did not yet actually have focus.
