How do I turn off Scriptwriting Mode?

I created a new project with a template I set up awhile back. This is Scrivener 3, latest version as of this date (5/4/22), on High Sierra.

As has happened before, somehow new texts in the research folder are now showing up in scriptwriting mode. Trying to toggle Format > Scriptwriting > Script Mode does nothing. This has happened before but I was able to turn it off - unfortunately I don’t remember how.

Is there a way to turn off scriptwriting mode other than the above? I can’t find anything in the documentation.

For now I “solved” this by 1) duplicating a “known good” old project (made from the same template), and then copying over only the new content & deleting the old content; and 2) trashing the stuck project. I have no idea what went wrong that the setting for Script Mode could not be changed. This could be a huge time-waster if it occurred with a large project that I had been working on for some time.

It’s hard to say without looking at the project, but my guess would be that a rogue document template is applying scriptmode to new documents.
