How to compile and use the header and footer font choices

My header font and footer font are set to Avenir Book 10.

  • Expected behavior: When compiled, that is the font in which those sections of the document appear.
  • Actual behavior: When I compile my pages, the header and footer font appear as Times New Roman.

Problem-Solving Attempts So Far
Parsing the documentation: The 3.5.1 manual says on page 618 that “a global font override” might be to blame. However, this instance is the first in which the term “global font override” appears. The footnote on page 618 says that there is more detail in 23.3.1. But the term “global font override” is absent from that section. It seems that selecting a section layout font via the “Determined by Section Layout” setting is the same as “a global font override,” though the text doesn’t use that term explicitly.

But 23.3 does say that there is a font chooser. Apparently in 3.5.1 that’s gone? It’s supposed to be in the top left. (I tried to upload a screenshot but my account is too new for that. Apologies.)

Changing the settings: But you can select the pencil/edit icon on hover, which then takes you to the Section Layout settings, where you can uncheck “Override text and notes formatting.” Doing that, however, makes no difference to the point of this post, which is trying to determine how to get the expected behavior from setting the header and footer font.

Request
Can someone please advise: Is there something else that can change this setting? How do I access that menu and make the corresponding changes? What is the relationship between the “global font override” and the section layout font? Where is this information spelled out more clearly?

Thank you very much.

In that menu, you can select a specific font rather than “Determined by Section Layout.” For instance, if you are sending to a market that requests Times New Roman, you can set the global font to Times New Roman without changing anything else. Hence, “global font override.” See Section 23.3.1 in the manual, “Choosing the Global Font.”

And yes, it sounds like that setting is the source of the issue you’re seeing.
