How to edit the word count target in Scrivener?

Trying to change the word count target in Scrivener and can’t figure it out. Thanks!

Just click on the second number and type in a new value, or use the edit button if you don’t see where to click. One thing to note is that if you have the session goal set to track by a deadline, then that won’t be editable as it is automatically calculated based on the total goal and the number of days left to complete it. You will of course always be able to edit the total project goal, from which that number is derived.

For some reason the little target icon in the lower right corner of the screen is missing. I have the horizontal color bar indicator down there, but no “target” button that I can click to edit the session word count.

Thoughts?

The target icon should be visible if you have clicked into (or otherwise activated) an editor that is in text mode (as opposed to outline or corkboard modes). But that will only set word count target for a single document or folder. If you want to set the word count target for your entire project, then go to Project->Project Targets, which is what Ioa was referring to.

To set a number of individual document targets easily, add the “target” column to the outline view; you can edit that field there for each document in the list.

Sounds like you’re viewing multiple text documents together in a Scrivenings session. The editor footer will show the total word count of the session out of the sum of any set individual document goals, and the progress bar reflects that. You can’t set a target for the session as a whole, however, so the target icon button isn’t displayed.

MM, bingo, bango, you diagnosed the issue exactly, thank you!
