How to Get a List of File Titles Only ?

I have about 100 files in my draft folder
each file has a title
that I have typed –
and the title appears in the Binder window.

I want a list of these titles,
the titles only,
not the content of the files.

Is it possible to get this list of titles only,
either by Compile or Export ?

I did see an OPML export feature –
and that will work, except that from there
I would need to convert the OPML file to plain text
– and maybe that task is easier than I imagine.

Thank you.

Well, if all you need is a plain-text list of titles, the easiest way to do this would be to select all of the items in the Binder and press Cmd-C. Now go somewhere else and paste.

Thanks, Amber.
That works !

I’d like to do the same, export all my binder titles. I tried the cmd+C copy command and it did work, but it didn’t preserve the hierarchy. I have more than 300 titles and at least 4 levels of hierarchy (it’s a complicated project).

I tried the OPML export feature, which worked to the point of creating a .opml file. But now what? Nothing I have will read it. I searched and downloaded OPML Editor. But that turned out to be a geeky program that wouldn’t let me copy the whole outline, even using cmd+C. !?!

Question 1: Is there a way to export the binder outline out of Scrivener, preserving the hierarchy, as any type of text or Word file?

Question 2: What program will accept an OPML file and convert it to a text file (preserving the hierarchy)?

I did search here, but found only old posts.

There are a number of compile presets to choose from: Enumerated Outline, Synopses and Titles, Synopsis Outline. I’d experiment with those, pick the one that’s closest to what you want, and then tweak it to your needs.

OPML is used by dedicated outlining programs (others may also open OPML, but I’m not an expert). OmniOutliner is one such program.

Oh, you mean I can get titles only with the compile option. I hadn’t gotten as far as compiling yet. I’ll give it a try. Thanks.

I’m happy to report that worked like a charm. Once again I’m impressed that Scrivener does what I need it to do (once I figure out how to do it).
