I’m new to Scrivener. Need help please. I’m entering individual poems in my Poetry Book. But I seem to have one continuous page. How do I insert individual pages in my project and document? One poem per page. Help me please.
Scrivener is not a normal word processor. It is rather strange. You really need to do the interactive tutorial under the help menu to have some idea what it is about. In many ways it is like an outline processor. So, in your case you might have a section of poems about:
- The economy
- Nature
- Beauty
- Epistemology
then you’d write poems under each section starting a new page for each one.
I agree: Scrivener doesn’t treat a “document” in the same way as word processors do. It doesn’t create page breaks, so a document is essentially one long “page,” until it is exported/compiled to a word processor. With poetry, then, you would need to create each poem as a separate document. Scrivener is great for gathering and organizing information; final formatting (including page breaks) generally has to be done elsewhere. The plus side (I would think for writing poetry) is that it lets you focus on each document/poem individually.
Have you got the Scrivenings ‘button’ activated?
You may be seeing one long document because you’re in this mode. In the toolbar at the top there should be three buttons grouped together, the one on the left looks a bit like an untidy pile of papers. If this is orange, you’re in Scrivenings mode. Click the button till it turns to normal colour; then, if this is the issue, you’ll see just the poem in the current part of the binder.
It may be that you don’t understand the function of the binder: it’s a tree structure which holds your documents, enabling better organisation. The tutorial will help a great deal.
