How to install 3 over 2.8.1

Hello,
I am purchasing Scrivener 3 to install on a Mac running newly installed 11.1. My previous version of Scrivener was 2.8.1 which no longer works under macOS 11.1. My previous purchase was through the App Store but I will be buying direct this time. My files are on dropbox.
I’m unsure how to proceed with installation. Should I delete 2.8.1 then clean install and link files? Will the fresh download, correctly overwrite and assign file locations? Can I just install over top or 2.8.1?

My apologies as would expect this has already been asked but I was not able to find an answered previous post.

Your projects will not be affected by the change, and should stay right where you left them. Scrivener 3 will convert them to the new project format as they are opened.

Scrivener 3 will not use Scrivener 2.8.1’s Preferences files, as too much has changed. So there’s no need to delete Scrivener 2.8.1, but no reason not to, either.
