I use Scrivener to write but also do a lot of research. I paste a lot of urls to save them and read again later if necessary.
Until now, when I did a simple copy from the browser + paste in Scrivener, the programme was automatically creating the url and picking up the page title (I attach a picture).
But, suddenly, it stopped doing that, and when I paste an url it does not even recognize it as an external link. I didn´t make any changes in Scrivener so I don’t really have any clue what might have happened…
The option to automatically correct web adresses is on.
The Add LInk command works, but before when I did a simple copy from browser and paste in Srivener it created the link and picked up the title of the website, which is really useful when you are organizing and looking for something. But now that does not happen anymore, when I copy and paste I have to click enter to create a link, and it stays with the web adress. As I changed nothing in the Preferences or elsewhere I really have no idea why this happened…
For me it pastes in the URL and only formats it as a link when I hit space or return. As far as I remember it’s never pasted the web page title. Which version are you using? Which macOS?
It used to happen to me like that also, it would only convert into a link when I hit space or return. But then suddenly, around three months ago, as soon as I pasted the link it acquired the web page title and I thought: “Wow, that´s great! It´s really useful for one of the ways I use Scrivener in my work. Probably it is an update”. And now, out of the blue, that is not working anymore.
I am using the latest version of Srivener for Mac, I think: 3.1.5 . And my OS is Catalina 10.15.5
If by any chance I find out the solution I will also let you know.
OK, just found a possible workaround. If you drag and drop the URL into Scrivener it retains the page title and formats it as a link automatically. Works with Safari and Firefox.
It may be that an OS update changed what was copied rather than any change in Scrivener affecting what was pasted, but that’s just a guess.
Thank you, RobG! By doing as you said it works exactly like it used to work before. In my case I use the Opera browser and the effect is the same. It is not as practical as “copy-paste”, but the end result is there.
Yes, I was also thinking about this the other day and I believe it is much more likely that this might have happened because of some OS update rather than any change in Scrivener.
Once again thank you for your time and for helping me!
