How to "remove" text from a table?

I had started down the road of using a single cell table to use as text boxes. I’ve since decided against this but have 8 fairly long passages in single cell tables. I though I could copy and paste-match-style but everything I’ve tried pastes the text and another single cell table! I’ve tried everything. Even copying and pasting a single word from the text box will create a table when pasted. Am I going to have to retype all of these?

Format -> Table -> Remove Table.
