How to save configuration changes to a theme file

I mean, if it came down to that, it would be more likely that none of this would exist, and all you’d be able to change are the colours and fonts, like on the Mac.

LOL true.

I think I’ll stick to just building a preferences file.

Yeah, I think it’s best to think of themes in two layers. If you want something guided, and documented, with a GUI, that you can adjust and preview the look immediately, then there is everything in Appearance (which is again what a Mac user would call a “theme” anyway).

If you want to change how a scrollbar looks, and the gutter in which it sits, or what happens when you hover over a menu command, well then walk right over here to the advanced user’s table and get Notepad++ out. Because making that guided is an idea that probably has enough meat on it to start a whole software development effort!

I once tried ChatGPT to write me a PAL editor. But that didn’t work out very well…

What happened if I might ask?

I got a set of unrelated C++ code I couldn’t combine to a functional program.
Maybe now or another model can do a better job?

Have you tried Gemini 2.5 Pro or Claude 3.7? Maybe with the same prompt either of them can do better.
