How to save file

I have Scrivener 2 for Mac. I have a 33 chapter manuscript. Every timeI try to back up my book to my external drive, it only saves the current chapter I’m working on, not the whole book.

Is there something different I need to do to save the whole book somewhere else? I was able to do it once, but I don’t remember how.

You defined a location for the project when you created it, and it is automatically saved there.

Scrivener automatically backs up, too, according to the options in the Scrivener → Preferences → Backups pane.

For other backups, you can use the File → Backup → Backup To command to save a copy of the project wherever you like.

How specifically are you trying to “backup to an external drive?” Are you using one of those mechanisms, or something else?

I’m using a thumb drive to back up. Ideally, I’d like to use the Scrivener default location to back-up and my thumb drive as an additional (disaster strikes) back up.

How do I do that so that the entire manuscript is saved?

As Katherine suggested, use File->Back Up->Back Up To…

How are you attempting the backup (as in, what menu item are you selecting/which keyboard shortcut are you using)?
