I can't access my back-up

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I had a virus on my computer and I backed all my files up(I thought) with Windows Back-up, and reformatted the computer. I had my backup on a thumb drive, but when I tried to open it I got the following message and I have no idea what it means(other than that I can’t access it) The message is: Location Access Error: Cannot access (file location) file is not writable. Access is denied. Auto-saves need write permission to your project". How do I get around this. I understand about not being writable, but how do I get write permission or make it writable or at least so I can copy and paste it into a new project? Do I have to start over from scratch? And how do you give write permission for auto-saving in Windows.

If anyone can help me, I’d really appreciate it.
Thank you for your time and patience.

Sorry to hear you got a virus! Restoration can often cause permission problems like this. We have an article on our knowledge base that may help you out: “Location Access Error” when opening project.

Amber, thanks so much. The Knowledge Base had just what I needed. Extract the files which is what I was not doing. Thanks so much for all the help.

Bright Blessings,
