While writing a creative piece, what if we could either set a wallpaper background for our word processor, or just slide a transparency toggle to show whatever wallpaper is on the desktop at the time? I am a very visual person, and looking at the right photo can really put me into a certain mood. I use mood to carry me through tone in writing a creative piece. So I think that, while L&L probably has much more practical suggestions here on this board, my suggestion is about style, and thus is equally as relevant.
I’m not sure about Scrivener for Windows but you can already set a background image in Scrivener for Mac Composition Mode, under Project > Project Settings > Background Images . You can’t adjust transparency as far as I can tell.
Also not sure about Windows, but in the Mac OS version of Scrivener, in “Distraction Free Mode”, there’s a slider on the lower right hand corner that you can use to adjust the transparency of your background. It shows whatever’s behind the App, which can be your desktop wallpaper if you have nothing else open and it’s clutter free.
Is that close to what you’re looking for?
Both of these are available on Windows, but the backdrop setting is found directly under the View menu. When a background image is set for composition mode, it doesn’t fade, but if you’ve left that off and just have a flat colour for the background, you can use the slider in the composition mode control bar to fade that so the desktop (or whatever you have open there) is visible behind it.
